I think it's possible to sample the ld orchestra hit from "You and me" on Around the planet. Or maybe it was some other song on that album, can't bother to check right now. Marco has that sample otherwise so you might want to check with him.
It's a matter of taste, but the first orchestra hit you linked to is in my ears horrible. Yes I know it's classic and I even used it back on the amiga (it was on those st-xx sample discs even), but there are many better ones, like the ld one for instance. |

| Anders, thanks for the tip. I actually got a quite useful result by sampling the orchestra hit sound at the end of You And Me. I edited the sample and removed the peaks from the hihat and I think that this sample will sound good after all the other sounds have been added to the song (bass, strings, etc). |

My next question concerns the Linn drums that feels like a mystery to me, especially the snare drum. What do I need to do to get the classical Proxyon/Laserdance drums ? If I use the Linn samples in this tutorial I get a different sound compared to the Proxyon/Laserdance albums. The Linn samples doesn't have the bite that I'm looking for and I've tried compressor and limiter without getting the correct sound.
Here is an example. I included an excerpt from the original version so that you can compare (the youtube version had too low quality):

While comparing these two mp3-files it feels like there are different snare drum samples in these versions and not just different effects. Rob mentioned both Linn LM2 and Roland 808 in the interview but the 808-sound feels like something completely different.
Btw, there exist a terrible remix version of Mission Alpha at youtube. |

| He also mentioned Akai MPC 60 in the interview. I haven't heard that one before. |

| It's possible to sample the ld snare from one of the maxi versions of Fear. It's completely solo. Can't recall what version it is but I'm sure you have it already =) |

Greetings amigos!
Staffan, Zenhiser recently updated their 80s section with a new Drum Kit. I think it's called Ultra Drum Kit. I got it about a month ago. Just now quickly browsing through some of the snares, I found several that closely match the one on Proxyon's track. You should check it out.
Also, ebay is your friend for samples. I recently bought a sample CD from vendor Samples+Plus. It contains samples from 60 drum machines including Linndrum, E-MU, Roland, etc. Sadly, the Akai MPC60 is not on the disc, but I'm pretty sure samples can be found elsewhere.
A while back somebody here at spacesyth.net was kind enough to post some very usefull orchestra hits. I just re-upped them again so you can download them here: http://www.mediafire.com/?vjy4imzijtj I'm sure you'll find them usefull. Some sound very similar to what you're looking for.
And last, here's a track someone made and posted on youtube. It's not a cover, but sounds very LD like and I love it.

Cheers and happy Spacesynth making.

| I have a question regarding the Emax trumpet. What is the best way to synthesize it from scratch and which effects to use? Are there any good VSTi to reproduce that sound? |
