How would you make those op-x brass sounds with Synth1 vst?

anybody have any tips or a quick tutorial?

im having trouble getting these sorts of brass sounds in synth1. I downloaded the free goldbank and that has some super sounds in there.

Also, can anyone point me into how I could make these types of sounds in Synth1?

the sort of saw sounds which can be easily pitch bended or modulated using midi keyboard.

i will definitely be buying that OP-X later on sometime, but at the moment I would like to learn the programming of these patches first on free vst's.

Study the synth brass patches in Lauri's recently published Synth1 bank, try to reverse-engineer them. Also remember that synth brass (or stabs as I prefer to call it) often sounds different together with other instruments, sometimes you need to apply fx and wet it down a bit to make it blend better. Here is a quick Synth1 example, note how the stabs gets wet when drums and bass start playing:

Software emulation of real hardware analog polysynths (such as the Oberheim OB-Xa which was used by Laserdance) is difficult since it would need to emulate each separate voice chip's analog behavior. Read more about this here.

Have a nice weekend Smile

Another nice synth that has very cool saw stabs is Korg polysix (which VST is a part of the Korg Legacy Collection)

The stabs in this demo are made with it:

It's incredibly easy to work with (much easier than synth1 or OPX actually)

Thanks for the tip and your mp3 demo, Oliwerko. Smile

Now, in regard to hardware synths (such as good old Korg Polysix), I don't have many of them unfortunately. But one of the synths I have is the Roland JX-8P (with PG-800 controller). I use it mainly for pads, but I'd like to tweak even better "stabs" sounds out of it. Maybe MKS-70/JX-10 would be an upgrade there (since, as I understand it, it would basically be like a double JX-8P)? My own stabs on the JX-8P surely does have that typical "analog warmth", but there's still some dimension that is missing for me.

Of course, "stabs" (or synthbrass as some prefer to call it) can be made on almost any synth, if we're just talking detuned saw and PWM square waves. But that special kind of analog polysynth character is a different story, really. At least for me.

Hi Johan!

I haven't used Synth1 in a while but I found my bank on this website:
http://veryrandomstreams.blogspot.fi/2012/03/over-10000-free-patchessounds-for-free.html

Download the zip, my Synth1 bank is called: Alfmeister's Magic Cracker

Bear in mind that I created those patches with an old Synth1 version. My guess is that some of the patches don't sound right with the newest version.
