I don't know how popular the original TRON was in Europe back in the 80's, but it was pretty big in North America back in the 80's, but this sequel I think is gonna be a huge revival. And just the fact that Daft Punk is making a whole CD soundtrack for this movie is crazy. I hope they decide to add some SPACESYNTH sounds to their music Smile Hearing one song already from the movie, which can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88ZMnYTIDeM&feature=related
I wouldn't be surprised if they were to indeed add some spacesynth elements to their soundtrack for the movie, since it already seems to incorporate some futuristic sounds and with video game sounds to the song on the video.

I don't suppose Daft Punk is aware of existing of such genre.

Tron was pretty popular at least in Poland - after all it was one of the first big movies, if not the first, utilising CGI.

Yeah, should be interesting.. They pioneered the new wave of vocoders in mainstream music with the monster hit "One More Time" Smile

That's autotune, actually (or so I'm told).

I still haven't seen the movie. BUT I have been listening to Daft Punk's Tron movie score lately and it's one of the best soundtracks I have heard - seriously. The music is nothing like Daft Punk's usual stuff, more like classic Vangelis/Tangerine Dream with some orchestral vibe.

I should watch the movie as well because the music sounds like it brings a lot of feeling to it.

But Daft Punk has reused themes from the old movie, so it's not really something new from top of their heads. I agree, though, that it's one of the best soundtracks of all time (along with the OST for "Inception" and "K-Pax"). It's brilliant and they should definitely have been awarded an Oscar's nomination, IMHO.
