If you are looking for Roland JX8P type sounds check out this new free VST called PG8X:

http://sites.google.com/site/mlvst0/

It's still a beta. You can follow the development here:

I have a soft spot for this particular synth and I'm surprised how close the VST sounds to the real thing.

I finally decided to give this one a try and surfed through the presets. Sounds very warm and impressive! Definitely one of the best freeware synths I have tried.

I very much agree. It's really close to the original synth. I own a JX-8P and I must say that the piano sound is almost identical, however when it comes to my favourite preset sound Poly Brass the emulation falls short (I tried to recreate it on the PG8X). Still a very good emulation. And it's free!

A couple of months ago the creator of this synth uploaded a new screenshot at Facebook and with the colored buttons it looks even more close to the JX-8P. Screenshot: PG-8X.jpg

According to his page at Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/MLVST/posts/355037417895781#!/MLVST ) he is working on Midi learn at the moment. This synth is impressive.
