Not a nice sound necessarily but delay gives some kind of rhythm that makes it easier to record ideas. It's just a method that works for me. I don't know how other musicians work.

I discovered that "delay produced melody" effect too in last year.Smile just tap the delay with melody beat and record first melody as dry and second one with delay and result is like 2 different melodies, but it was just used as experiment in the past.

Cheers for the link, Hadron. Lots of good looking stuff - and not just the audio articles.

I stumbled across this particular Gearslutz thread:

Some good tips to improve stereo image of your synth basses.

When you guys are in the process of composing/producing (I'm assuming you do them together), are you already thinking generally about what spot(s) on the frequency spectrum each instrument will take?

I've done this a little--I often have two basses, one duller and more Koto-like, the other brighter and more LD-like, and I think about the duller bass taking a lower spot than the brighter one, and I adjust the filters accordingly. But I don't think about this so much with, say, leads. Should I?
